TDD’s Guide to Maui Derm Caribbean 2024; Stay Tuned for Daily Coverage

Approaching its second year, the Maui Derm Caribbean meeting is slated to take place at the Hilton Aruba from January 10–13, 2024.

Led by Louisville, KY dermatologist Joe Fowler, MD, and George Martin, MD, a dermatologist in Kihei, HI, and Maui Derm Program Chairman, the four-day meeting will feature treatment updates on psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne/rosacea, pigmentation disorders, blistering diseases, pediatric dermatology and more. This year’s agenda is packed with clinics, product theaters, challenging case sessions, and talk on global dermatology by retired U.S. Surgeon General Boris D. Lushniak MD, MPH.

Session: New Products & New Therapies

When: Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024

9:00 am – 10:00 am

Featuring: Dr. Martin and Theodore Rosen, MD, professor of dermatology, Chief of Dermatology at the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and medical editor of The Derm Digest.

2023 was a banner year for drug approvals in dermatology – and the pipeline is full. In this session, Drs. Rosen and Martin will discuss the newest drugs and therapies and how you will be using them in 2024 and beyond.

Session: Infectious Disease Update 2024

When: Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024

9:00 am – 10:00 am

Featuring: Dr. Rosen and Albert C. Yan, MD, Chief of the Section of Pediatric Dermatology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where he is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. 

Experts share information on what infectious diseases may find their way onto our shores next. This session is not for the faint of heart.

Inside Scoop: “The world is still threatened by COVID. However, both old and new organisms are emerging or re-emerging to cause other infectious diseases,” Dr. Rosen tells TDD. “Come hear about the various bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic threats, and why the infectious disease apocalypse may be upon us.”

Session: Atopic Dermatitis and Itch Update 2024: Part 1 and 2

When: Friday Jan 12, 2024

Featuring: Multiple speakers

New biologics, new uses for existing biologics, oral systemics including JAK inhibitors, and novel “non-steroidal” topicals have changed the way AD is treated. Maui Derm Caribbean Faculty will discuss the “how, when, where, and why” to use these therapeutic options. 

Inside Scoop: “We’ll talk about the newest concepts in causation including environmental issues and the serine protease of Staphylococcus aureus strain V8,” shares faculty member Peter A. Lio, MD,  a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a partner at Medical Dermatology Associates of Chicago “We’ll talk about the new drugs and the ones coming! Most of all, we’ll talk about how to think about treatment in the medium-to-long term.”
